HP Color LaserJet 2820/2840 Printer Firmware Update Utility 20050901.001 Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003.

These changes are implemented in firmware date code 20050901:

  • User changeable Hostname (32 character limit). Use the embedded web server (EWS) access to change the Hostname. (Example: enter //192.168.0.102/ into an approved web browser and click on the \"network\" tab to make the change):
  • Printer (WINS request) responds only when queried specifically by name.
  • New color tables implemented to correct minor color variances.
  • Default media mapping for envelopes now set to tough paper for improved print quality.
  • Printer IP address discovery, delayed until network cable has been plugged in, to help eliminate default IP address being assigned incorrectly.
  • Selection for \"USB high speed on / off\" menu item now available in service menu to help with \"job too complex\" issue when using a 5 meter (15 foot) USB cable (English only with this release.)

    Issues previously corrected and included in this release of date code 20050901.

  • Improves image quality when using 1200 PPI scan resolution back to PC.
  • Copy quality for monochrome copies improved with reduced streaking and corrupted data.
  • Improved FAX performance: fewer missed / dropped calls, busy signal detection and \"unexpected paper size error\" correction.
  • Embedded web server (on printer) updated to provide correct information transfer for Supplies ordering, event log numbering and FAX application Phonebook content issues.
  • USB enumeration improvement for both MAC and Windows PC\'s.
  • Data corruption due to RAM being overwritten corrected.
  • Scanner errors \"scanner 8\" fixed.
  • Postscript level 3 emulation performance improved when errors in sent image detected.
  • Several network issues resolved: LPD and 9100 issue in high LAN traffic, Photo memory card network access re-enabled after setting changed and reboot, and better resistance to I/P (internet protocol) address changing on reboot and detection of duplicate I/P address.
  • Improvement to copy color rendering tables makes black darker and enhanced performance for \"text mode\" dark edges.
  • Performance with large (1 Gigabyte) Photo memory cards improved.
  • Correct 49 service error occurring after scanner calibration.
  • Tagged Binary communications protocol files print error pages fixed.
  • Added automatic power cycle after I/P changed from control panel.
  • Corrected \"Printing Document\" displayed on control when paper is out between multiple print copies of a print job.

    The HP Color LaserJet 28X0 Firmware Update Utility can be performed using either a Network connection or USB port.

    When using the USB port or the network connection, the HP Color LaserJet 28X0 software must be installed prior to using this utility.

    The HP Color LaserJet 28X0 printer must be in a READY state as shown by the LCD display on the control panel and remain powered on during the entire firmware update process.

    This utility is for use on Windows 98SE, ME, 2000 and XP. It can be used with Network or USB connections.
